Prior to joining the ASCAP management team, Philip Crosland served in senior marketing and general management positions with the Gallo Winery, Avon Products, General Foods/Kraft and was a Worldwide Advertising Account Director for Johnson & Johnson. He earlier served as a Navy fighter pilot with over 300 carrier landings. In this hour Philip talks about ASCAP's partnership with i-SAFE to create the nation’s first comprehensive educational program addressing why personal piracy of music and other creative content is harmful. Titled “The Donny the Downloader Experience,” this program is being presented in schools across the U.S.

In 1870, Salmon Chase, the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, flatly stated: "The legal tender (money) is only valuable for the purpose of dishonesty." In this hour, Dr. Lawrence Parks sheds light on the meaning of Chase's statement by explaining how our current fiat (paper) money system is literally not worth its' weight in silver, gold or any other tangible commodity. Its' value is based solely on good faith and credit and leaves us vulnerable to having our life savings wiped out in the blink of an eye. He will also share his views on the current state of the economy.

Amadou Diagne, Associate Director Medical Sciences

Senegalese born Amadou Diagne has been a medical scientist specializing in HIV since 1999. In 1986, he co-founded the UCLA AIDS Institute Virology Laboratory and ran it until 1996. While there he collaborated with the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) on several projects including the standardization of quantitative culture techniques to measure viral load (VL) and the evaluation of experimental treatments on VL on HIV/AIDS patients. Amadou developed techniques for studying viral pathogenesis and tropism, while setting up training programs in basic virology laboratory techniques for post-doctoral graduate students at UCLA School of Medicine. In 2003, Amadou joined the Medical Affairs Team of Gilead Sciences to cover the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Central regions working on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. In this role, Amadou travels across the US to address diverse audiences ranging from highly educated academics to lay persons on the topic of HIV/AIDS. At the community level, his target audiences include African Americans, Latinos and African and Caribbean immigrant communities, the mass media and today he sits down with Angela to reach the Initiative Radio audience.

Save Africa Concerts Foundation, Inc. (SAC AIDS)

Nigerian native Hardy Jimbes founded the Save Africa Concerts Foundation in the year 2000 to use entertainment as a tool for educating people in North America about the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa and to collaborate with community-led initiatives in Africa, to support existing programs for prevention of the disease, care for the afflicted and de-stigmatization of people living with HIV/AIDS. SAC AIDS signature fund-raising event is the annual Beyond The Tears Humanitarian Awards, which honors individuals who have heroically committed themselves to the overall movement of promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention in the world. In 2007, SACAIDS honored HIV/AIDS activist and former First Lady of South Africa Winnie Mandela. Among this year's honorees are R&B icon Pattie Labelle, Chief Rochas Okorocha, President of Red Cross Nigeria and youth activist and AIDS sufferer Ravin Lopez. On today's show, Hardy will speak with Angela about his journey from Ebo, Nigeria to New York City while giving listeners a rundown of this year's awards presentation which will be staged at The World Famous Apollo Theater on September 6th.
