As Initiative Radio expands its' audience, the IR team is diversifying the programming to cover topics and guests who might otherwise remain below the media radar. One such guest is talented, young 3-D artist, animator and sculptor Zan Rice. In a lively conversation with Angela, Rice recounts his days as a recalcitrant New York City kid, whose innate artistic talent was his saving grace. He also gives listeners a crash course in 3-D animation and the modeling techniques used to bring many of our favorite superheroes from the pages of our comic books to the movie houses and toy shelves.

Cathleen also lifts the spirits of children each year when she takes a break from New York, to undertake humanitarian missions in South-East Asian orphanages.

Twenty-five years ago, Larry Gold's father was set to close down his sandwich shop in a not-so-glamorous part of Manhattan, now known as the thriving district of Soho. Armed with gumption and the desire to bring Brazilian music to Manhattanites, Larry took over the lease of his father's store and established the iconic night club SOB's. Over the last quarter century, SOB's square footage and repertoire have expanded to showcase a plethora of world and urban music makers – both famous and soon-to-be famous. In this hour, you will be inspired by Larry's journey as a successful, music loving entrepreneur and by the eclectic musical selections Angela has programmed.

Heritage Heights Village Initiative (Harlem, USA)

The village of Harlem is undergoing major gentrification and consequently, folks who have survived segregation, poverty and drug wars are now being asked to pack their bags and make room for others. Landlords and long-time tenants seem to be constantly at odds, while a “new” and more “desirable” tenant is being ushered in to change the face of one of the America's most culturally enriched communities. In the midst of these changes, the Heritage Heights Village organization, is employing initiatives that seek to embrace Harlem's evolution, keep her cultural heritage intact and bring hope and prosperity to long-time residents. Heritage team member, John Cardwell sits down with Angela to explain how the Heritage Heights team is managing this Herculean task.
