Spring is here and everywhere in America baseball fans are planning to skip work on the day of their favorite team's home opener. Joining Angela today is Gregory Bouris to talk about the charitable nature of America's sports heroes. Through the MLBPA, initiatives such as The Players Trust and the Buses for Baseball program have been established to encourage the youth to become active community volunteers and to give under-privileged children the opportunity to meet and greet players before enjoying a game at the ball park. Additionally, we learn how the MLBPA serves and protects the rights of the players in the capacity of a worker's union.

Sharon White, Alvin Valentine & Hillary Nauta, Exodus Transitional Community (Encore Broadcast)

The Exodus Transitional Community was initiated in the 1970s by a group of inmates at Greenhaven Correctional Facility who realized that prison life was not preparing them to succeed on the outside. In the 1990s, Julio Medina was a member of Exodus who believed that the program needed to extend beyond prison walls because freed individuals who wished to make an honest living and reconnect with their families were plagued by recidivism. Unemployment created a feeling of despair and hopelessness and ultimately they returned to crime then back to prison. Today's guests have served a combined total of nineteen years behind bars for offenses that range from sale and possession of narcotics to assault and armed robbery and first degree manslaughter. Now they have promising futures through their participation and administration of the community-based Exodus program created by Julio Medina.

Wednesday April 23rd , Thursday April 24th & Sunday April 27th
Dr. Lawrence Parks, Executive Director, Foundation for the Advancement of Monetary Education

In 1870, Salmon Chase, the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, flatly stated: "The legal tender (money) is only valuable for the purpose of dishonesty." In this hour, Dr. Lawrence Parks sheds light on the meaning of Chase's statement by explaining how our current fiat (paper) money system is literally not worth its' weight in silver, gold or any other tangible commodity. Its' value is based solely on good faith and credit and leaves us vulnerable to having our life savings wiped out in the blink of an eye. He will also share his views on the current state of the economy.

Wednesday April 30th , Thursday May 1st & Sunday May 6th
Heidi Thompson, Domestic Violence Focus Area Manager, New York Junior League

Mother's Day 2008 will mark the fourth anniversary of the New York Junior League's "Race to Erase Domestic Violence."
